UK: Job cuts at chicken processing plant

06-08-2009 | |

A poultry processing plant in Devon, southern England, is to shed about a sixth of its workforce, reports the BBC.

A total of 95 workers at the former Lloyd Maunder chicken processing plant, which is now part of the 2 Sisters Food Group, are to be made redundant.

The West Midlands-based firm said the cuts at the Willand plant were partly due to bad weather in July, which led to reduced demand for barbecue products.

It said, however, that the redundancies would help boost job security for the remaining core workforce of around 500 people.

The firm bought the meat-processing company for an undisclosed sum in January 2008.
