USDA: broiler production do decline 3%

The USDA revised downward its estimate for 2009 broiler production to 35.8 bln pounds. This is a decline of 3.1% from a year earlier.

In January, broiler meat production was recorded at 2.87 bln pounds, down 11.3% from 2008, said the USDA.

The USDA expects lower production for February and March. It is estimated that first-quarter production will drop 5.7% to 8.63 bln pounds when compared to 2008 results.
