Vietnam: woman dies of bird flu

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has confirmed that a 23-year-old Vietnamese woman from northern Thanh Hoa province has died of bird flu. This is the 4th avian influenza fatality this year.

The woman developed symptoms similar to bird flu patients on 16 April and was taken to local hospital for treatment. She died on 22 April.

Test by the National Institute of Infectious and Tropical Disease showed that she has contracted the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus.

This is the fourth person who died of bird flu in Vietnam so far this year.

Before this death, Vietnam had reported 110 cases of human infections, with 55 of these resulting in death.
