Waste discharge clogs Caribbean drainage system
A meeting has been arranged between a Caribbean water authority and a local broiler company to discuss poultry waste water, after the water authority threatened to take legal action over the issue.
The National Water Commission (NWC) and Caribbean Broilers Limited will meet shortly to discuss the waste water situation.
The Water Commission has given Caribbean Broilers an ultimatum – to implement measures to prevent its waste from clogging the drainage system by 30 November, or face legal action.
Caribbean Broilers has been accused of discharging its waste into the NWC’s system resulting in blocked sewers on North Street.
Corporate Affairs Manager at Caribbean Broilers, Dr Keith Amiel, said while the group is aware of the problem, it believes the sewage system needs improvement.
In the interim, Dr Amiel says the group will do all in its power to improve how it discharges waste.
