The Government of Zimbabwe has compulsorily acquired a total of 19 farms around Harare for urban expansion.
The Minister of State for National Security, Lands, Land Reform and Resettlement, Cde Didymus Mutasa, published the acquisition order in a notice in the Government Gazette.
Among the expropriated properties are Zimbabwe’s Tobacco Association’s Odar Farm (606 ha) and the four farms of Crest Breeders International (Private Limited) around Harare that have been compulsorily acquired, measuring in total of 230 ha.
Crest breeders is part of CFI Holdings, which is comprised of three major divisions: the ‘Retail’ division, the ‘Specialised’ division and the ‘Poultry and Animal-Feed’ division.
The ‘Poultry and Animal-Feed’ division is comprised of Suncrest Chickens, Ross Breeders, Crest Breeders, Agrifoods, Vetco and Glenara Estates.
Agrifood supplies stock feed to Crest Breeders and the outsourced Chicken Contract Growers, while Vetco offers technical advice on the breeding and growing of chickens and provides veterinary diagnoses and vaccines to the group. Ross Breeders sells day-old chicks to Crest Breeders, who grows and then sells them to Suncrest, the largest processor in Zimbabwe, which processes the chicken into frozen dressed chickens and supplies the retail shops.
