Production of poultry in Argentina doubled to more than 1.6 million tonnes between 2003 and 2010. Another doubling of production is foreseen until 2020.
Argentineans consume 38.5 kg of poultry meat per head, which made it possible to export almost 300,000 tonnes of poultry meat. Production is expected to grow to 3 million tonnes in 2020, which will also lead to quadrupling of the export figures.
Argentina will then become the second largest poultry exporter in the world after Brazil.
The poultry sector is dominated by large companies such as Granja Tres Arroyos, Cresta Roja and Rasic, which are supported through cheap government loans of 10%.
Argentina has installed limitations on the export of corn, which makes it cheaper for internal use and stimulates poultry production.
