The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for meats, poultry, fish and eggs dropped 0.3% in August, according to the latest report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs fell 0.3%, the first drop in eight months and ends a string of seven consecutive increases. In addition the indexes for dairy and related products and for nonalcoholic beverages both fell slightly.
In contrast, the food index rose 0.2% in August after falling 0.1% in July.
