Australia’s poultry consumption increasing
Following a recent survey conducted in Australia, it has been discovered that the country’s annual per capital poultry meat consumption is set to rise by over 1 kg per head per year to 40.5 kg by 2012/13.
According to Food Week Online, Abare has forecast that in just a few years, annual domestic production will have climbed 9% on 2007-08 levels, totalling 940,000 tonnes.
It is anticipated that the retail poultry prices next financial year are likely to be similar to this year’s level, averaging AUS$5.36 (€3.2; US$4.95) per kg, according to the Abare report.
In the medium term, Abare expects poultry prices to ease by 8% (in 2007-8 dollars) as productivity gains and lower grain prices lift the meat’s competiveness.
