Dutch eggs contaminated with dioxin are believed to have been exported to Belgium and Luxembourg, according to a notification by the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
The eggs originated from one organic farm in the Netherlands from where they were sent to an egg packing station in Belgium and to single retail outlets in Belgium and Luxembourg. An alert has been given that other egg products may have been manufactured with the tainted eggs.
The products have now been withdrawn from the market and an official investigation will take place with officials stating “the problem seems to be restricted to only this egg producing farm”.
Authorities have yet to confirm the volume of the eggs involved.
