Russia has increased its production of poultry by 9.1% in live weight terms, according to reports from the country’s Ministry of Agriculture.
For the first seven months of 2015, the Ministry said that production totalled 3132.8 thousand tonnes.
In addition, there was a marked increase in egg production of 3.7% compared with the corresponding period last year, an increase of 675 million eggs. The average price of poultry products in July, provided by the state statistics service Rosstat, was RUB 96.4 (US$ 1.47) per kg, a 5% increase on the previous year.
“The largest increases in egg production and poultry for slaughter in live weight in relation to the corresponding period last year were provided by the Belgorod, Saratov, Yaroslavl, Ryazan and the Bryansk regions and the Republic of Mari El,” said Vladimir Labinov, director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Breeding at the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
Over the past two years, the volume of poultry production doubled in the Kursk region. The Republic of Mordovia increased production more than 1.5 times, and the production of eggs in the Kamchatka region increased by 1.5 times. This was made possible due to the reconstruction and modernisation of existing facilities and the commissioning of new livestock facilities.
“Further development of the industry is possible due to increase of competitiveness, development of innovations in the field of genetics and selection of all types of poultry, and the introduction of new techniques and technological methods of deep processing of poultry meat and eggs, to expand the range of products,” said Vladimir Labinov.
