Exports force high egg prices in Kuwait

21-02-2012 | | |

An increasing amount of eggs being exported from Kuwait has led to an unprecedented high in egg prices on the domestic market.

Mohammad Mutlaq Al-Dujaini, Member of the prices committee in the union of cooperative societies and Chairman of Ardiya cooperative society, said there has been no response to his repeated warnings of the dangers resulting from exporting eggs abroad.

He said he holds the Ministry of Commerce and the Union of Cooperative Societies responsible for the unprecedented hike in the price of eggs in Kuwait.

“Eggs are basic goods in every house and it is one of the important goods for food security. There is an increased demand for eggs in the winter season and everyone has felt it. Merchants are being supported at the expense of consumers, who are continuously being faced with high prices.”

“No officials have made any move to stop this matter, and they did not heed my warnings,” Al-Anbaa lamented.
