Indonesia: Kampung chicken demand predicted to rise

The local poultry farmers association in Indonesia, Himpuli predicts that the demand for kampung chicken this year will increase to 15%. This increase is boosted by strong demand from the middle to top class.

The chairman of Himpuli, Ade Zulkarnain said, “Jakarta is the region with the highest demand for kampung chicken. Last year alone, the total demand in Jakarta reached 70 million birds.”

“But this year we are projecting that the total kampung chicken production will only amount to 90 million birds because the production is still constrained by a limited supply of kampung chicken parent stocks,” said Zulkarnain.
