Iran bans chicken exports
Iran’s Agriculture Ministry, together with the Industry, Mining, and Trade Ministry, has banned chicken exports as domestic markets face shortage.
Earlier this year, due to the overproduction of chicken, the country temporarily reduced the duty for chicken exports, resulting in the flow of most of the country’s poultry production out of Iran, increasing domestic prices. Iranian poultry farmers have the potential to boost exports to 500,000 mt of meat per year, but factors such as US sanctions and a feed shortage remain the biggest obstacles.
Self-sufficient in poultry and eggs
Today, Iran is self-sufficient in both poultry and eggs and, according to the Tehran Times, has the highest production effectiveness in West Asia. The top 3 export destinations for the poultry exports in the first 3 months of the current year were Afghanistan (4,116 mt), Iraq (2,523 mt) and Venezuela (246 mt).
