LAR expects to double chicken production

The Brazilian LAR Cooperative announced a huge investment of € 370,5 million by 2024 for its poultry and pig producing chains in Paraná.

The company will spend the money on existing or new slaughterhouses, feed plants, and farms (granges or aviaries), mainly in the North and West of the state.

“We are investing in the production of chicken and pork, in integrations, and in the processing industries in our main production cities of Rolândia, Medianeira, and Marechal Cândido Rondon. We expect to create 26,000 new jobs,” said LAR president Irineo da Costa Rodrigues.

LAR’s poultry business

The poultry business represents 30% of LAR’s turnover. The cooperative’s own investments will be used for 9 breeding centres and new incubators, with an investment of € 18,45 million. The associated producers intend to invest in 14 new sites for egg production and build a total of 880 new houses aviaries, with a total investment of € 139 million.

Currently, the cooperative owns 1.1 million parent stock birds, which will double to 2.2 million in 2024. The cooperation will grow from 15.5 million incubated eggs to 40 million. LAR expects their chicken meat production to increase by 107%, with 1.1 million birds slaughtered per day. Once the plans are implemented, there will be more than 500 new farmers, 3000 poultry houses (an increase of 104% in relation to the current stock), and 71 municipalities in the coverage area.

Politics play an important role

LAR´s president made the announcement on the 10th of February during an event attended by the Parana´s governor, Ratinho Júnior. After detailing the investments, Irineo highlighted several demands to the public power. Among them were improved infrastructure (viaducts, duplications, accessibility, and paving of rural roads) and implementation of alternatives for energy production.

No other sector invests as much as ours. We need the State to complete this dream. The governor is doing his part, but we are signalling our urgency,” said Irineo.

The governor pointed out that state is already working in most of these fields and LAR’s investments will help Paraná to further increase food production and industrialisation. “Paraná prides LAR Cooperative throughout its history. We want to make its developing process easier,” said Ratinho Junior.
