First certified low-carbon eggs launched in Thailand

The Thai company says these egg products, including free-range eggs, demonstrate its committed to net zero emissions by 2050 and offers consumers choices of environmentally-friendly low-carbon eggs.

Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation certified these egg products for the company’s efforts in mitigating carbon greenhouse gas emissions in the production process. The head of the company’s layer business, Somkid Wannalukkhee, says CP Foods mitigates greenhouse gas emissions through optimising feed, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting renewable energy, and the use of recycled material in egg packaging, and various other strategies.

Last year, egg production in the company had already reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 617,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

Renewable energy

In addition to the use of solar panels, several of its layer complexes use electricity from a biogas system that converts chicken manure into electricity. The company says that this year, one of its layer complexes will use 100% renewable energy.

To date, CP Foods reports that over 800 of the company’s food products, including fresh pork, chicken, shrimp, and animal feed, are certified with Carbon Footprint Label and 50 products are earned the ‘Global Warming Reduction’ label from Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation.
