Within one month 48 chickens went missing from a farm in West Bengal.
Initially, wild dogs were the suspected culprits. When Ajit Ghosh, the farm owner, decided to keep a nocturnal vigil to catch the perpetrators in the act, he watched in horror as his calf, fondly named Lal, sneaked into the chicken coop and grabbed the poultry “with the precision of a jungle cat.”
Veterinary officer, Mihir Satpathy, suspects that a lack of vital minerals in the body caused the behaviour.
