Russia announces four new turkey production projects

Four new projects for the production of turkey meat in Russia have been announced recently.

The Moscow Company NEC Group is considering building a number of turkey farms on the territory of Samara Oblast. The complex will reach full production capacity by the beginning of 2015, and the level of self-repayment will be  reached within seven years. The company intends to invest about 3 billion rubles (US$ 110 mln) in the project. The volume of production will be about 10,000 tonnes of turkey per year – say experts.

Another project worth 1.5 billion rubles (US$ 55) will be constructed in the Yakovlevsky district of the Belgorod region by the company Econika. Construction of the farm is to be completed in the next two years.  The project also includes construction of its own slaughterhouse and feed plant with a capacity of 10 tonnes per year. The total volume of production of turkey meat according to forecasts will be about 6,000 tonnes.

Also within the next two-three years in the Belgorod region, Agri Gertsevskaya will construct a turkey farm with a production volume amounting to 6,000 tonnes in live weight.

Another major project will be implemented by the Israeli company MID in the republic of Ingushetia. According to preliminary expert estimates the company will produce 10,000 tonnes of turkey meat per year.

In 2011, the production of turkey meat in Russia began to develop faster than the rest of the poultry industry. It is predicted that by 2015 the production of turkeys in the country will triple compared to 2011 levels.
