Russia imposes ban on more Brazilian poultry imports

Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) has imposed a ban on poultry imports from two Brazilian companies due to the fact that their products have been declared dangerous for consumers.

Restrictions has been imposed on companies SIF 2335 (Libra Terminais SA) and SIF 601 (Diplomata S/A Industrial e Comercial).

Following this announcement, the total number of Brazilian enterprises that are not allowed to deliver their meat products to Russia has reached 129.

During the monitoring process of the poultry shipment from SIF 2335 listeria was identified; in poultry meat coming from SIF 601 – inspectors found Salmonella. Previously Rosselkhoznadzor has warned some Brazilian companies about the need to implement greater security control concerning the products meant for the shipment to the Russian market.

Representatives of the Service also added that temporary restrictions on the supply of poultry to Russia could be also implemented to some others Brazilian producers if they continue to violate the animal health requirements of the Customs Union.

Rosselkhoznadzor once more appealed to the veterinary service of Brazil to tighten their control of food safety of products meant for the Russian market.
