Russia imposes restrictions on Czech poultry imports

Russia has imposed additional restrictions on the import of poultry products from the Olomouc region of the Czech Republic, due to an outbreak of Newcastle Disease, Rosselkhoznadzor, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance has reported.

In January, Russia already banned imports of poultry and eggs from the Central Bohemian and Maravskosiliziysky regions of Czech Republic, which was also linked to the outbreak of Newcastle disease.

“At the moment we require from the Czech side binding assurances and guarantees that they are supplying us with products that was produced in areas where there have been no outbreaks of Newcastle disease in the past six months. Poultry products must meet the requirements of veterinary legislation and be safe for the Russian market,” said Irina Makurina, the inspector of Rosselkhoznadzor for St. Petersburg and Leningrad region.

Previously Belarus imposed a ban on poultry products from Bulgaria, due to an outbreak of Newcastle disease. These restrictions are all automatically implemented in countries of the Customs Union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan), since in accordance with the agreement of 2012, a ban on the supply of livestock production to one country at the same time takes effect in other participating countries.

In Russia in 2012, four outbreaks of Newcsatle Disease were registered in the Kurgan, Moscow and Tomsk regions, as well as in the republic of Chuvashia.
