The growth of turkey production in Russia continues to gain momentum, according to official statistics.
Production of turkey meat in the period from 2005 to 2013 increased 10-fold, and by 2015 its volume is predicted to reach 132,000 tonnes, whereas 90,000 tonnes of turkey meat was produced in 2013.
According to Ivan Bessonov, chief of the medical department of Tula regional veterinary laboratory, the Tula region is currently one of the largest producing regions of turkey meat. In 2013 the region produced 17,900 tonnes of this type of meat. According to Bessonov, by 2014 this figure will rise to 21,800 tonnes.
By 2020, Russia aims to increase poultry production to 4.5 million tonnes, while consumption of poultry per capita will rise by 10-15% and reach 31.7 kg. In the context of such aforecast, the volume of turkey production in the country may reach 200,000 tonnes.
