Panama has experienced a 14.5% increase in the production of chicken meat in the first half of 2014,the Comptroller General of the Republic of Panama has reported.
According to the report by the Comptroller General poultry production has increased by 14.5% to 71,800 t of poultry products, a 10,400 t rise compared to the first quarter of 2013.
The president of the National Association of Poultry Farmers of Panama (ANAVIP), Luis Carlos Castroverde, estimates this growth was mainly due to the investment made by the Panamanian poultry operators and improving the distribution network of fresh and processed products.
The leader of ANAVIP added “the country has a poultry population of approximately 19.5 million. From that, about 15.8 million birds are dedicated for fattening, 2.5 million to laying eggs and 1.2 million for reproduction”.
Overall the Central American country’s poultry sector is composed of 17 companies and it has a per capita consumption of about 36 kg/person/year.
