In addition to increasing the rate of poultry meat production, Ukrainian farmers have also seen a rise in the volume of egg production over the first nine months of the year, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Nikolai Prysiazhniuk stated.
“Today, we see that the growth of the livestock industry in the country is presented in different directions. Along with the growth of chicken meat we have also increased our egg production. Thus, in January-October 2012 our poultry farms produced 9.7 billion eggs, almost 123 million units more than in the same period of the last year.” said Prysiazhniuk.
The Minister also pointed out that the level of layer productivity in the country is growing as farmers are beginning to use more efficient breeds and better feed. Prysiazhniuk also noted that in 2012 Ukraine will keep it’s position as the leading exporter of chicken eggs in the world. He said that for the first nine months of this year, domestic farmers exported nearly 22,000 tonnes of eggs.
“Thanks to the competitive price, high quality of domestic egg products, as well as growing demand in Africa and the Middle East, Ukraine continues to maintain a leading position in terms of egg export. Today, Ukraine exports eggs to 22 countries, and the main buyers are Iraq, Angola, Moldova, Liberia, Turkmenistan, Russian Federation, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Azerbaijan and Congo,” he added.
