Ukraine's 2012 poultry exports up by 50%

In the period January-November 2012 Ukrainian producers exported 70,500 tonnes of poultry meat, an increase of 46% over the same period in 2011 (48,300 tonnes), according to the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation (UAC) at a press-conference.

“The rise in exports was mostly due to increased exports to countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States(CIS), which was up 59% compare to 2011, and offset the weakening Asian export market (down by 17% compare to 2011),” – the press service said.

Noteworthy were exports to; Russia saw a five fold jump, Belarus more than doubled, while exports to Kazakhstan in the first 11 month of 2012 fell by 13%.

The chairman of the Union of Poultry Farmers of Ukraine Alexander Bakumenko had previously estimated that by the end of 2012 poultry exports will be 70,000 tonnes, whereas the first 11 months have already exceeded that.

At the same time experts of UAC reported that in 2012 imports have also risen. Imports for the period January-November are 97.7% higher than the same period in 2011. This hike was due to the increase in imports from the US (8.3 fold), Brazil (19 fold) and Hungary (4.7 fold). Thus the import share of the Ukraine poultry market also increased from 8% in 2011 to 15% in 2012.
