US: User Fees dropped from Fiscal Commission Report

09-12-2010 | | |

User fees for the meat and poultry industry were not included in the revised recommendations of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, issued this week.

The Commission, established earlier this year to suggest actions to address the national debt, last month recommended that nearly $1 billion in user fees be charged to meat and poultry processing facilities to finance food safety and inspection services as part of it’s proposed debt reduction plan.

While the final report failed to receive the proper number of Commission votes to send it to Congress, it is expected that Administration and Congress will use sections of the report as a template for future budget purposes.
