USDA reports increase hatchery broiler eggs

According to US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) 19-state weekly broiler reporting program, there were 1% more broiler eggs set than the corresponding week one year ago.

Broiler growers in the19-state weekly USDA broiler reporting program placed 174 million broiler chicks on farms during the week ending 16 September 16 2006.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 percent, NASS reported. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
