Waitrose to use only free range eggs
By the end of 2008, wherever egg is used as an ingredient in any Waitrose product, only free-range eggs will be used.
According to Heather Jenkins, head of meat buying of Waitrose, a United Kingdom supermarket chain, less than 5% of the eggs used within the company remains to be converted to free range. The date has now been set for a full 100% use of free-range eggs.
“Completion of this final phase in our switch to free range is extremely important to us and our customers, as it builds on the high standards of animal welfare for which Waitrose is renowned,” says Jenkins.
