Twenty five farmers from the Erzeugergemeinschaft Süd-West producer group visited the Wimex operations in the Baasdorf region of Germany to learn more about the company, particularly the breeding and performance of Cobb500 parent stock.
The farmers, who grow chickens for Europe’s largest poultry meat producer Wiesenhof at Bogen, Bavaria, were welcomed by Gerhard Wagner, founder of Wimex, outlining the historical development of his company and describing its broad-ranging activities today.
The main production manager, Stephen Klaasen van Husen, led the guests through the visitor rooms of both rearing and production farms showing the high standards of the company.
Under the leadership of Josef Wohlfrom, the visitors had lunch in the restaurant Die Quelle with Graf Leopold von Drechsel, Wimex managing director and president of the Association of Poultry Management in Germany (ZDG).
During a tour of the Anhalt area, the party saw vegetable production in Bördegarten Arensdorf, development of software in geoKonzept Baasdorf, energy generation from chicken manure in the Köthen biogas plant and the Wimex arable farming activities.
