Novus acquires enzyme company BioResource International

Novus International has completed the acquisition of US-based enzyme company BioResource International, making Novus the owner of all BioResource International’s products and intellectual property, and takes control of the company’s facilities in North Carolina in the US. BioResource’s products include feed additives and enzymes, among others.

Elanco becomes exclusive distributor of GalliPro Fit

Following an agreement with microbial solution manufacturer, Chr. Hansen, Elanco Animal Health has now taken over sole UK distribution of GalliPro Fit, the only triple-strain poultry probiotic proven to support consistent gut health, according to the company. The probiotic offers a natural way to support stable gut health by building a robust microbiome, allowing birds to optimise feed efficiency and therefore performance.

EW Nutrition launches a new xylanase product

At VICTAM 2024 in Bangkok, EW Nutrition officially launched its newest product, Axxess XY, an intrinsically thermostable xylanase that breaks down both the soluble and insoluble fibre fraction from feed ingredients such as corn, wheat, grain by-products and oilseed cakes. It releases nutrients trapped in cell wall fractions and improves the gut environment by reducing viscosity, according to the company.

MicroXpace and Lallemand Animal Nutrition partner with new tech for poultry, fish

Startup microXpace and Lallemand Animal Nutrition are preparing to enter the product development phase for the Alpha-Gal-based technology. The production of Alpha-Gal antibodies, triggered in response to microbiota expressing the Alpha-Gal glycan, has revealed to play a vital role in recognising and binding pathogens’ surfaces. This technology offers new possibilities to help maintain animal health through supporting resilience to infectious diseases affecting aquaculture and poultry. A broad range of parasite targets have been identified.

Evonik Vland Biotech joint venture commences operations

The newly-founded joint venture Evonik Vland Biotech, based in Binzhou, China, commenced operations on 1 January 2024. The parent companies, Evonik China and Shandong Vland Biotech, want to jointly expand the market presence of their products, such as probiotics for the gut health of livestock in the Greater China region, and develop new products and solutions. The joint venture was officially opened in Qingdao on 14 March.

Deloitte and DSM-Firmenich partner with Sustell

Deloitte and DSM-Firmenich have entered into a strategic partnership aimed to address the growing need for environmental accountability and unlock new opportunities related to sustainability across the animal protein value chain using DSM-Firmenich’s life cycle assessment (LCA) platform, Sustell.

DSM-Firmenich and Agrifirm create a new platform for poultry production

DSM-Firmenich and Agrifirm have partnered with their Sustell and PoultryNEXT platforms to create a platform for poultry performance optimisation, focused on health and sustainability. The new platform will offer a solution for transparent and responsible poultry production addressing the value chain needs, say the companies. A pilot will be rolled out with Agrifirm partner farms, utilising PoultryNEXT with sustainability insights provided by Sustell. The service will give farmers access to sustainability insights such as a farm’s environmental footprint to support responsible production performance.

CCPA highlights nutritional solutions management of heat stress

The CCPA group says its Thermoplus solution for ruminants and Thermo Control solution for pigs have a direct effect on body temperature, contributing to improved animal well-being during hot summers. The company says that while bird physiology is different, and it is not possible to act on body temperature regulation, Feedstim Poultry acts on the consequences of stress generated by periods of high temperature and humidity. The company says that by incorporating these nutritional solutions into feed, it is possible to reduce the drop in performance induced by heat stress.

Evonik unveils latest global trial results

Evonik has released the second edition of its MetAmino Atlas, a set of 19 new performance trials investigating the relative bioavailability of supplementary methionine sources in animal diets. The latest studies reconfirm that 65 units of MetAmino can replace 100 units of methionine hydroxy analog free acids and its calcium salts (MHA-FA/Ca) in feeds for poultry, swine, and aquatic species without compromising animal performance. The trials were conducted in experimental settings and under practical conditions at large scale commercial farms in 12 countries with more than 2 million animals. Some of the largest trials included 838,000 ducks in China, 408,500 broilers in Germany, 217,000 broilers in Brazil, and 120,000 laying hens in China.

Borregaard’s lignosulfonates reauthorised

Borregaard has announced the reauthorisation of its lignosulfonate products as feed additives for all animal species by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). As the only lignosulfonate producer, Borregaard has spearheaded the reauthorisation process towards EFSA and the EU Commission over the past 13 years. The date of effect is 21.03.2024. This approval applies to the use of Borregaard’s lignosulfonates as a technological additive (functional group: binders) for all animal species.
