British Lion has launched 2 new initiatives to promote egg sales – a refreshed app for consumers and a lecture plan for catering students developed with Westminster Kingsway College.

Egg recipes app: bigger, better and quicker

The app is a relaunched portal available for both Apple and Android devices, and contains a range of recipes developed by the British Egg Industry Service (BEIS).

Alongside the recipes is an egg timer that users can pre-set to their preferred timing to achieve the perfect boiled egg.

Andrew Joret, British Egg Industry Council chairman, said: “The Egg recipes app is bigger, better and quicker, and full of fantastic content, making it easier than ever before for consumers to find the meal inspiration they’re looking for.”

Student caterers need to learn best practice in eggs

Meanwhile, the BEIS has also developed tools to help college lecturers learn about sourcing, cooking and serving eggs and egg products.

It said foodservice operators had highlighted strong consumer demand for eggs throughout the day, “so it’s important that student caterers are given a comprehensive understanding of best practice at this early stage in their careers.”

The lecture plan is broken down into 6 areas:

  1. what’s in an egg
  2. egg quality and production
  3. food safety and the British Lion Code
  4. culinary properties
  5. eggs and health, a and
  6. simple dishes with eggs.

It was developed with the help of Jose Souto, of Westminster Kingsway College, London, who said: “Eggs are an integral part of daily life for any caterer, whether you work at the local café or at Michelin star level, so it’s vitally important that we provide students with access to the right information so they can source, cook and serve eggs to the best of their ability.”

The resource is available on the Egg Info website.
