Meat processor 2 Sisters has received praise from a very unlikely source – a vegan organisation that holds regular vigils outside its Devon plant.

Devon Animal Save has an agreement in place with the company’s Cullompton-based abattoir that allows time with the chickens before they enter the slaughterhouse, with an average of 1 to 2 minutes with each truck.

Other slaughterhouses could learn from 2 Sisters

Representatives from 2 Sisters are on hand to answer any questions and ensure the birds and protesters are kept safe.

Writing on their facebook page, Devon Animal Save said many slaughterhouses could learn a lot from 2 Sisters in the way their treated animal activists.

“2 Sisters have been really good with us and it’s something other slaughterhouses should really take on board in terms of dealing with activists.

“We have a 2 Sisters employee standing with us so we can bear witness and show the chickens some love without having to resort to stopping the trucks and risking our safety and the safety of others.

“We are there for the animals, not to make life difficult for the slaughterhouse and their staff,” the organisation added.

Devon Animal Save will however continue holding weekly vigils outside the Cullompton plant.
